dave

ummm okay this is weird i have three emails(duplicates) sitting in my in-box.
and yet no replys on this thread.

unfortunatly i can't use the email instructions as they say " Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate

boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows...."

but don't tell me which are the appropriate boxes.

wahts going on?????

dave

You have 2 or 3 threads going on the same problem !!stick to one thread and stop creating a new one ,We get lost !!!
You get the email everytime we reply to your thread or when you reply to it !!
Just click on you Nicname in ths thread and go to view other post and you will find the one that Crunchie was working on with you ,and he will continue helping you .

The apropiate box is a little box in hijackthis right in front of the line that someone is telling you to fix.
The box would be right here in front of this line for example .O4 - HKCU\..\Run: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

the last thread i posted on this subject is quite old and my computer has changed drasticly since then.

For example the live update folder mentioned in crunchies post no longer exists. and niether does R3 defualt hook missing for that matter.

I therefore feel it needed a new thread.

the email sent to me this morning does not make it clear which value need deleting and in fact doesn't contain anything with the format 04 hkey blah blah blah.

so where has the post which should be between my two previous posts on this thread gone????

sorry for being a bother but i dislike playing about with my registry without knowing exactly what i am doing and without this post feel that i can't be overly confident.

dave

Clear your restore points now like so..
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O2 - BHO: MyWay Search Assistant BHO - {04079851-5845-4dea-848C-3ECD647AA554} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\SrchAstt\1.bin\MYSRCHAS.DLL
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar3_28.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E6B48BC7-4EA9-4643-A4B3-BB7C4F69287A} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: QuickSearch SearchBar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar3_28.dll

Disable CTHELPER.EXE in Msconfig.

Kernelfaultcheck

Go to system properties (right click MyComputer > properties) > Advanced tab > under startup and recovery click settings > under System failure make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked AND that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked. Then under *write debugging info* select (none) > Click "OK" and reboot.

If you crash again, write down the entire STOP message.
You can post it at this resource.

i can't find ct helper in msconfig there is howver a CTsysVol and a CTDVDDet.

cthelper does come up on a search and is located in my in the system32 folder.

could you please explain how i am meant to disable this file.

cheers

dave

If you used hijackthis to fix , CTHELPER.EXE ,then it isn't going to show up any more in msconfig .I wouldn't delete it from the system32 folder.

The 04 entrys of the hijackthis log are whats in msconfig !

seems to be clear, although another couple of viruses(or whatever the plural is) have popped up which may or may not be to do with the dropper virus.

looks like they are to do with it 1 x download.inserv 2 x .shs.

don't have time to do the log tonight though. or should they be a new thread???

dave

just continus here when you come back

right i have an .shs file which AVG says its healing but comes back after a reset.

its loacted at promgrammefiles\ech\hc2\printers\troubleshooting\images\ep1.bmp.shs

Could be a false positive by AVG.

Could be a false positive by AVG.

it was!!!!!

but with the pest control thingy

regsvr32 /u [systemroot]\winshow.dll

For example, in a Windows XP machine in which your systemroot was at c:\winnt, you would enter:

regsvr32 /u c:\winnt\winshow.dll

how do i know what my system root is??? im sure its obvious but..........

dave

Judging from your HJT log, your %systemroot% folder is C:\Windows. If you want to be absolutely sure:

1. Click on the "Run..." option under your start menu.
2. In the resulting dialog box, type "cmd" (omit the quotes) and hit enter.
3. At the resulting DOS prompt, type the following and hit enter:

echo %systemroot%

perfect think everything is sorted.

cheers crunchie.
