Big big problem

I think I completely ruined my pc. I had some trouble with amaena.com, downloaded RegRun Reanimator Platinum to get rid of it and now Windows XP only starts when I press F8. What shall I do now? I would really appreciate some help!

It seems that your winlogon has been modified and i think that WinAvX.exe is spyware

go to run and try typing sfc /scannow (you might need a windows cd)

and then reboot. It should let your system start normally again. (sfc is a program which checks whether spyware has replaced important windows files (like your winlogon) , and if it has, it is replaced with some proper ones)

Just some quick questions for jbennet...

The Microsoft documentation for sfc (System File Checker) is rather terse. The XP version of sfc just runs and reboots the system without telling you very much. Do you know if it leaves behind a log or some other way to know what it's done? Also, is there some way to ask it to replace just a single file like you could in the old menu-driven Windows 98 version?

Please download VundoFix.exe
to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.
