New poster here. My wife is having a strange problem and I'm out of town. Thought someone here could help.
In the last 24 hours or so, her gateway xp laptop started acting weird. Any time she clicked on a folder or start menu or even just the desktop, the search results window would pop up. Not a dbl-click (am already aware of a registry fix for that), just any single click brings up a window. She would find herself with a dozen search windows open and unable to do anything.
She'd hard reboot, sometimes with a loud beep from the motherboard I guess. Occasionally, she can work for 30 minutes before it starts up again. We've run ad-aware, avg, ccleaner, rolled back to a previous date, nothing works.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Virus, spyware, hardware problem?
