hey im new to this and not very techincal but i think i may have a virus my windows and firefox just closes itself randomly while i am connected to the internet i have trend micro internet security but it isnt picking anything up...does anybody know what it could be??

My latest Firefox 2.0.0.8 seems to be doing the same thing. If I turn off javascript I don't get the crashes any more.
I'm using Linux, and can say with surety I don't have a virus - probably a bug/bad library somewhere.
You might want to downgrade to a little older Firefox until they fix the bug - if in deed that is what it is.
Just to be on the safe side you should make sure your Antivirus is updated - but I highly doubt this one is a virus.
To test this you can open up a site - something basic without javascript - and leave it running for a while, without doing anything. If all goes well it should not crash.
