Windows XP system on Dell Insprion 600m and HP Officejet 6110.
I have photos I want to print as 4"x6"
I use Paint to set it up.
What is the right page set-up?
How do I insert the paper?

Practical, step-by-step checklist for getting true 4"×6" prints from MS Paint on Windows XP to an HP Officejet 6110 — fills gaps left by the earlier replies from , , and .

To prepare the image in Paint:

  • Crop the photo to the 2:3 (4×6) aspect ratio so no unexpected parts are lost when the printer fits the image to paper. ()
  • Use Image → Attributes to set size or pixels. Paint lets the units be inches or pixels and converts using the current image resolution; for a crisp photo target 300 ppi (4" × 300 = 1200 px, 6" × 300 = 1800 px). Saving a 1200×1800 image at high JPEG quality preserves detail for a 4×6 print. (oreilly.com)

Print settings (in Windows Print / Printer Properties):

  • Select a 4×6 paper size (or enter 4"×6" as a custom size), set scaling to 100% / Actual Size, choose the photo paper type and “Best” or “Photo” quality, and enable borderless only if the driver explicitly supports it. Preview the layout before printing. (manualshelf.com)

Loading 4×6 paper in the Officejet 6110:

  • Remove other paper, slide the tray guides to the outer positions, tap the photo stack to align edges, insert the 4×6 stack until it stops, then adjust the width guide so paper is snug. Follow the HP note about the nonprinting side/arrow marking so the printable side faces the correct direction. (manualshelf.com)

Quick troubleshooting:

  • If prints come out scaled or tiny, confirm image pixel dimensions match the intended print size and that driver scaling is off.
  • If cropping is wrong, re-crop to 2:3 in Paint and use Print Preview.
  • If color or banding appears, check paper type/quality in the driver and install the latest HP print driver for Windows XP.

I was having similar problems trying to figure out how to print pictures properly on my photo printer. I downloaded Picasa (www.picasa.com), which is free from google. It automatically sizes the pictures properly and gives you an exact preview of what you're going to be printing. It works great. Give it a shot.
