Hi, new to this and am doing this for a friend who up until a few days ago had a healthy pc, then one day after switching it on none of his programs would work, his desktop would come up and msn would start because it runs when windows starts. He can't even perform a system restore because it wont open, he doesnt have windows discs because it has a built in restore facility (packard bell).
Hopefully someone will know what to do as he starts his exams in about 3 weeks and seriously needs help.
Any ideas would be greatful.

reboot the computer and press F8 just after the BIOS screen before the Windows logo screen, this will start the computer in safe mode you should be able to do a system restore from there
