My Hp Laptop running Windows Xp Home edition has over time gotten slow, especially when it begins to load windows. it takes about 5 or 6 minutes just to get past the windows logo. The funny thing is that once it has finished booting the speed is ok. The ram size on it is 512mb and i have over 30 Gb of free hard disk space. I have run disk defrag, disk cleanup, and registry cleaners, but none of these have helped. I also cleared the prefetch folder, still without results. Any suggestions are desperately needed...thanks.

Go into Add/Remove programs and remove the apps you know you don't use anymore. If you antivirus subscription has lapsed you should upgrade it as well.
