Hi, I have an acer 3680 laptop that came with vista...however my vista was taken off and xp was installed. Everything works great except the headphone jack. When i plug the headphones in there is still music coming from the speakers of the laptop. My headphones do work while this is going on. I have tried updating the sound driver, and the whole nine yards and can not figure anything out. If you could help that would be awesome.
Thanks
Jlous

It sounds like a mechanical problem. The jack plug has a little contact that allows your speakers to work when there is no head phones pluged in and breaks the circuit (stopping sound from them) when plugged in. I don't think that your PC can over ride this. Try moving your jack plug arround and see it it changes the sound! If it is a major problem and you can access the jack plug socket fron inside the box and you have a souldering iron, you can replace the socket or try to repair the contact.
