Hey guys, I've run into a problem accessing the default share on an XP home box. What I am talking about is the shares window that appears when you run \\computername from another pc. It usually has a couple of shared folders, and the Printers and Faxes folder. Now, I've been checking everything I can think of, and here's what I've noticed. I cannot access the pc's shares by running \\computername from another pc. I get an access denied. Now if I create a shared folder named XYZ, I can access that folder by entering \\computername\xyz. This tells me that it isn't a firewall issue. Also, The All Users\Documents (usually called shared documents) folder was access denied to my admin account, so I had to boot into safe mode and reverse engineer the permissions from another xp home box, hoping that would resolve both issues. Unfortunately, it only solved one. With that issue resolved, I was able to install sp3 (sp3 failed because it couldn't backup the freebee bethoven's 5th mp3 in that folder!!) , hoping that would just miraculously fix the issue. It didn't. So that is basically where I'm at now. I've found a workaround for the thing that started this all, adding a printer shared from this pc, but this type of problem irks me and I'd like to know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.
