Hi All,

I have an aspire 1680 laptop that I bought new about 5 years ago and its been working fine up until about 2 weeks ago when the lcd screen went blank. It is not totally blank, I can see the screen vaguely, but not enough to work on it. I am currently using an external monitor to work from. I noticed the screen went off around the time I plugged a new power adapter I purchased on ebay in.

I have tried the basic troubleshooting exercises but to no evail. Any help graitfully received?

Sounds like the screen backlight transformer has failed. You will probably need to get the screen replaced by a professional.
