Navigate to > C:\windows\system32

Check that "chkdsk.exe" is in there if not...

Navigate to C:\windows\system32\dllcache

hopefully you should find a copy in there that you can copy and paste into system32's folder.

Also check...

Into regedit if possible and navigate to ...
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\

and check that "BootExecute" is set to "autocheck autochk * "

You must have a dllcache in system32; to see it you must go Explorer [My Comp] > Tools tab, Folder options > View tab, and uncheck Hide Protected Opsys files, Apply n OK.
And when finished you might like to hide them again. Safer.
The file you are looking for is autochk.exe, quite different to chkdsk.exe, although in the end they both perform the same checks but via different means. You should have both, both in system32 and in system32\dllcache.
You have SP3: if you downloaded this then there will be a copy of autochk.exe in ServicePackFiles\i386.
autochk.exe runs at startup if so ordered, chkdsk.exe runs when Windows is online.
Your hijackthis log is clean.

Go ahead and click Yes to display them. You will be quite safe as long as you do not actually delete any of them.
However, I just checked, and both these files are protected by Windows File Protection System, so if they existed in dllcache then they would be automatically replaced into system32 if the corresponding files in there were corrupted or deleted, renamed.

Hello,

Tried everything that was suggested and still get the same autocheck message. the following has been posted on my Windows error log:

Windows cannot query DllName registry entry for {CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C 5DBFC5D} and it will not be loaded. This is most likely caused by a faulty registration.

Dell fixed my computer this month and after the error message started showing. Is it possible that they may have checked or unchecked something to cause this? I have no dllcashe cant find any autocheckexe. Also went to hkey-local-machine/system/current controlset/control session manager bottexecute--Bootexecute was not there.

I have deleted some tool bars and other things that I don't use sending new log for your review

try going to start/run type in with out the quotes "sfc /scannow"note there is space between the c and the /, you may be asked to put in the winxp cd to replace missing system files

Ran the sfc /scannow and it took about 15 min. to finish. Gave no info and didn't ask for the cd. If it did, would that cd wipe everything off and start from scratch. Also Internet Explorer 7 web page shows up everytime I sign in--I try to answer the questions but it wont clear the page. Should I upgrade to IE8?

Quick question, Can I try removing service pack 3 and reinstalling it back to the computer. Wondering if missing programs would be back after reinstall.

first sfc stands for system file checker ,it would only replace missing system files like the ones you mention ,dllcache.exe and chkdsk.exe ,no it wold not replace the whole windows os.
don't see point in removing sp3 ,but you could try just install it over top of itself if it will let you .

checked with microsoft who told us to put the XP cd in and do start/run/cmd--then type in driveletter:\i386\autochk.exe %WINDIR%\system 32 would not go through but if it did we were to type overwriteC:\windows\system32\autochk.exe?--This did not work
Said wont run in win32 Problem with syntex

overwrote service pack 3 and that did not work either

I would like to know what probem would this error message cause--everything is working and I am able to do my everyday work with no problems--So what is worst case scenario? As you can see I really don't want to reformat!!!!! Any info is appreciated.
