Short answer: you need to make a DVD-Video disc (the PLAYER-compatible format), not just burn .wmv files as data. DVD-Video uses MPEG‑2 video inside a VIDEO_TS folder (or an ISO image) and the correct TV standard (NTSC or PAL). Many car/TV players will also play DivX/MP4/WMV data discs if the player explicitly supports those codecs, but you must confirm that first.

Practical workflow

  1. Check the car player’s supported formats (DVD‑Video, DivX, WMV, MP4) and which disc types it accepts (DVD‑R, DVD+R, DVD‑RW).
  2. If it only plays DVD‑Video: author a DVD‑Video project that converts your WMV clips to MPEG‑2 and builds a proper VIDEO_TS structure. Set the correct standard: NTSC = 720×480 ~29.97fps; PAL = 720×576 25fps.
  3. If the player supports MP4/DivX/WMV, you can re-encode to that codec/container and burn as a data disc (UDF filesystem) — only if the player lists support.
  4. Burn/finalize the disc (close the session) and test on a PC DVD player first, then the car.

Quick troubleshooting (for ’s blank-disc symptom)

  • If the TV shows a blank disc, check whether the disc contains VIDEO_TS on a PC. If not, you burned a data disc.
  • Verify PAL/NTSC mismatch; a PAL disc on an NTSC-only player can appear blank.
  • Make sure the disc was finalized/closed; many players ignore open sessions.
  • Try a different media type (DVD‑R often has wider legacy support) and burn at a lower speed.

Notes for and others: use your Nero authoring module (or free tools like DVDStyler/DVD Flick) to automate MPEG‑2 encoding and menu creation. If unsure which standard your car uses, test a short clip in both NTSC and PAL or consult the player manual.

Yes. :( I wanted to make sure he was not trying to put videos or data on there and expect them to play, which hes not.

As for the DVD burning part. You will need some software to burn a MP3, WMA (Not suggested), or Nero Digital Audio disk (Recomended). It seems like you cant to that with your version, so try this one or somthing like it:

As the original question seems to be anwered I would like to post a related question:

How can I make a movie DVD in PAL format so I can play it in my TV's DVD player. I have Nero and It seems to let me do it but it came up as a blank disk on my tv.

Please can you help me, I really want to be able to do it!
