Hi, hope you can help me, I have a Toshibe Satellite laptop running XP sp2 registered with ms with a 40 gig hdd but I bought it online and have no backup disks, the laptop has the xp oem code label under it. My problem is the m/c recently started hanging and running vey slow, I originally thought I had a virus but now running chdsk have found lots of bad clusters so now assume the hdd is about to pack up. I have new 20 gig hdds available and was considering using one to replace the original but how to do it without backup disks ? I have a 60 gig usb hdd can I copy my c drive to a folder on that then copy that to the new 20 gig hdd and install that in place of c drive ? I hope this makes my problem clear, Thanks.

Have you defragmeneted it?
start > all programs > system tools > deframgent
Might help. As for installing on a new harddrive you need a xp disk, which microsoft should be able to help with.
