I spent most of last Sunday recovering from a bad deed of my own making. Attempting to download a video clip, I was told that WMP could not handle the type of file, and asked me if I wanted to download a Codec. Regrettably I allowed the download, and ran the install. And that's when things fell apart. there were about a half dozen registry values that were either changed or added, including the setting for disabling TaskMgr.
To make a long story longer, I found part of the solution here in this site and another site. I have recovered 99%, but still am nagged by the following Outlook 'problem':
Prior to the hijack, when I received emails that contained embedded images, the images would appear in the email as expected. Now, all of the image frames appear, but no image, just the little red X in the upper left-hand corner. Is this an Outlook>>tools>>options setting problem or is it yet another registry value that was tinkered with.
Would most appreciate any direction from someone more 'in the know' than I.
