have run full system restor on laptop, now function keys won't work and i can't adjust the screen contrast or brightness. laptop is a compaq armada v300 running windows xp home.
any ideas?

To what point have you restored the system? Try to re-install the laptop utility drivers whcih should enable all the fn features of the laptop.
