after upgrading from xp home to sp2 I get the "We apologize for the inconvenience..."

So after upgrading from microsoft.com to sp2 from home edition it asked to restart the computer, so I let it and now it won't start in normal mode only safe mode. If I try the normal mode it just continues to restart/reboot and goes to the "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully..." screen.
I can start in safe mode though, so if someone could tell me what I might need to fix I would be greatly appreciative.
