can I get some help? dell inspiron 2400 with xp getting a corrupt or missing file error on boot up. when I follow the advice to start windows setup using the set up cd rom the computer will not accept any commands from the keyboard. whats up

You might need to set the legacy USB in the BIOS if your keyboard's connected that way. Dunno what's corrupted your system - either a screwed up HDD or a virus/trojan.
You'll spend yonks on this. What would I do? I have the luxury of being able to connect the HDD in a USB enclosure to another PC and get my data off.
I would then FDISK the HDD; reformat it and via the Windows CD rebuild my system with everything cleared out.
It's the straight line between where you are and where you need to be.
