I just wired my house with cat 6 cable, the cables going to each room are connected to a network switch which is then connected to a cable modem. I connected one of the cat 6 lines in my living room to an Apple Airport Extreme. I then connected a Sonos bridge on cat 5e and my tv on cat 6 to the Airport. Yet every time I connect the tv over cat 6 my whole network goes down. Does anyone know why this is the case? Any help would be appreciated.

Where is the router?

The router is in the living room, connected to one of the cat 6 lines. I tried a cat 6 patch cable to connect from the Airport to the tv and it worked without taking the network down.

Most devices these days can switch a port from requiring a patch cable to using a regular one, but not all do that. Apparently that was your problem.
