Re: It looks to me like C:\U.EXE is the culprit, and it regenerates if you delete it because of DLLs and the like that have been planted into the system. If you are able to put your laptop disk into an enclosure and connect it via USB to another computer, I …
Re: You could try this: 1/ Right click on your task bar and choose Properties on the pop-up menu. 2/ Under the heading Notification Area, find the Safely Remove Hardware icon and select the Always Hide option if it says Hide when Inactive. If it says Always Show try Always Hide. …
Re: All far too confusing for me too follow! Won't PartitionMagic sort this out? Merge all the drives into one? Or is there some restriction in the constellation you've got?
Re: Right click on one of the "offending" folders; if the default action (in bold) is Search, then this is your problem. With Regedit, navigate to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Directory\ shell] Change the default data value to None. Next navigate to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Dirive\ shell] and do the same thing. Hopefully this will solve …

Re: Always difficult tio diagnose that stuff from a distance but have you tried the following? 1/ You've disabled the on-board sound so far as I can see. 2/ Check whether there is a drivers update from the Diamond support site & download if there is. 3/ Re-install the chipset drivers …
Re: 512MB RAM is insufficient for your SW set, I'd say. 2GB at least. Yiour system will be paging like mad; also your anti-virus program might be conributing between 14 & 23%. That's advice based on the description you've given. More detail, more refined answer.
Re: Dima provides sound advice. Your CPU can be, say 90% idle, but if your system is running slowly for any reason, then your idle time will show high since the CPU can't be served with things to do at an optimum rate. What you're telling us is that your work …
Re: I can imagine that a lot of readers of your question would steer a mile away from copyright issues! First piece of advice to you is to read your licence. You'll find it somewhere in the Dell stuff. In case you don't read it, I can tell you what it …
Re: You could try a registry cleaner to try and put the system into a state of grace. I would do this with half an eye on the likelihood of at least doing a Windows Repair rather than a re-install.
Re: Maybe better brains than mine will spot a problem in you HJT report - but I noticed most prominently that your are still on XP SP1. I also noticed that you've tried a trojan clearout before posting and it seems clear to me. Anyway, the starting point should be XP …
Re: On the sparse information provided there'sonly one piece of advice that makes sense. Reset your router to default settings. Then you should at least connect again. To get your printer connected - well that depends on what your printer is telling the network. If it's connected to a router port, …
Re: If you are "lucky" enough to have a copy of W2000 or W98 handy (as I have), you could try installing that from scratch and applying your BIOS upgrade then. There is a better than 50/50 chance that this wheeze would work, putting your BIOS in a state of grace …
Re: The other way to delete the files you don't want is to put the disk drive into an external enclosure, attach it by USB to another computer and then delete the software either in Windows Explorer or from the DOSC command line. When you put the disk drive back into …
I thought I'd start a new thread rather than tack this onto any of the other threads, many of them very helpful. However. none of the offered solutions on their own worked - but my compound solution did work and I offer this to all frustrated individuals as I'm sure … |
