I suspect the laptop is starting ok with the modem and then perhaps the output on the electronics (ethernet and Wireless) are getting 'jammed' and thus locking the modem into waiting for the signal from the output side of the laptop which has seized. if reinstalling all the drivers (ethernet and wireless and perhaps the modem) does not work then I fear it may be professional electronics help.
Increasingly it sounds to me like a heat buildup problem and then an electrical component switching off to prevent damage.

have you tried updating your java?
(use search 'java' & update)

it does rather depend what language u r using.
but it is a simple loop job where each time you go round the loop (until it exits in this case at five) you just increase the counter by +1 and then print out the '*' multiplied by the counter.

over to u

It does sound like a mobo problem with the electrical feed to battery and mobo.
can you get any response by even tryijnhg to get to the bios (pressing F2 or del or whatever?)
if not then it look very mucxh like a power supply to the mobo. and as this is often integrated (logically)with the charger on the mobo....!
If you are very competenatg and can put a meter across some of the termainals inside tghe comptuer you may be able to see if there is a voltage at the MOBO for the various supplies that it needs!
