Qwazil...when the operating system was first installed it searched out all of the drivers it would need and recognized the chip set, when you installed the other motherboard with its different chip set you basically confused the heck out of it. When I did that my OS very quickly got worse and worse to the point it wouldn't open.

If you have the installation disc and product code I would suggest using a utility like Wipe Drive and do a fresh installation. After you download the program you will need to make a CD of it as you computer will boot from it. This means that you will need to make sure that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order.

Another thing that annoys me are people that use public rest rooms and don't wash their hands, ever seen the handle of the rest room door under a black light? It's situations like this that make me remember my mother telling me "don't touch that, you don't know where it has been, of course she expressed the same thing about a girl I dated in high school.

What is annoys me are people that can't make the distinction between annoy and hate.

dcc 88 Posting Virtuoso

All of us have things that annoy us, like the sibling that puts a carton of milk back in the refrigerator with just a couple of drops left. Or the girl friend that squeezes the toothpaste tube in the middle while you squeeze it from the end. And then there is the worst of them all, people making threads like this.

What annoys you?

Did you change the master slave configuration? Did you check to see if the IDE cable was plugged in properly? You might try another calbe.

Did you reformat or wipe the drive prior to reinstalling the OS?

Actually it is the sum of the parts in that is important, gaming computers do rely heavily on the graphics card, but without good RAM and a good CPU you still ain't playing up to speed.

You hit the nail in the head. Over here, (USA) every thing has to be
so politically correct, that we are handicapping ourselves to the point
of paralisis.

This is a very difficult issue because we can not be absolutely sure we are right every time we convict and sentence a person to death. Until this issue is resolved there are going to be people who will want the death sentence suspended or abolished. I have to admit that I see the practical aspect of this, but do believe that we need to have some means of imposing some form of deterrence. Unfortunately the same laws that we have passed to protect us also protect the convicts.

Personally I would like to see sentences that would make others think twice about trying it. For example...take a child molester, there should be a sentence where this person is taken out into the desert where a six by six foot cabin has been built. The prisoner will have his pecker nailed to the floor and a knife left within the prisoner's reach, the cabin will then be set on fire leaving the prisoner to make a choice. Would this be cruel and unusual punishment? You bet! Would it deter the next person thinking about committing the same crime, if the person had a healthy mental state yes...and that's where the problems begin. Most of the heinous crimes are committed by people that we recognize as having mental disorders. Cho …

Well hallelujah Ancient Dragon, at 55 I was beginning to think that perhaps I was the oldest here. I got a letter from AARP a while back, kinda brought it all home.

For those of you who are saying that travel is impossible I would like to remind you that a lot of what has been written as science fiction has come to pass. We can't even begin to realize what the future holds, especially at the rate that our technology is growing.

Try downloading Asquared and run it in safe mode. This is free.

The good news is that a format doesn't delete the files, only the address tables. This means that you should be able to retrieve those files using software like Getdata.

Does the power shut down entirely when the hsf stops? Did you replace the thermal compound when you installed the CPU and heat sink?

The SATA2 will work with the SATA controller, but it will only operate at the SATA speed of 1.5Gbps.

Remember, all was working fine, I did not change a thing and it just quit working.

Actually...this is the first time that you have mentioned that you had it working. I thought you were trying to get this to fire up for the first time.

It does look like the problem would be either the motherboard or the CPU, unfortunately as you are aware the only way to tell which is the culprit is to swap them out. I don't know where you purchased the parts, but most people will allow you to exchange the components under warranty since you did have it up and running.

What kind of weird noise, clicking, whining, rock and roll? Can you tell what part of the computer the noise is comming from?

It's true that you shouldn't PM the mods with "frivolous" messages, but if they have the time to post a public rebuke they should also have the time to respond to your question in the forum.

When you take a hdd that has been used with another motherboard there are drivers that it is used to seeing, and when you install it with another motherboard it tries to recognize the new drivers from that board, this confuses the hell out of it. Sometimes the hdd can recover from this, other times it can damage the registry.

I got tired of the porblems with zone alarm and uninstalled it, and downloaded sygate. After I rebooted I received the following message-

Smc. exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

When I get to the desktop there wasn't an icon for sygate, so I went into search and created a shortcut, when I clicked on it the page came up, but was not responding to any commands, I had to reboot to get rid of it, and the icon was gone after the reboot.

I know that the Smc. exe is part of the sygate software, but why is windows having a problem with it?

Anyone else having similar probems?
