Well, install it.

apt-get instal python-pyside or install it from pypi using pip (apt-get install python-pip then pip install pyside). It probably has other dependencies too, like PIL and QT.

What? What are you actually trying to do?

Um, do you really mean to do assignment (=) or do you mean to compar for equality (==) ?
If so, dont you mean

if ((C2 == (A2 + B2)) && (D ==  (A + B + C)))
            {
            }

Daniweb is "much" faster now than old daniweb was.

Thats normal. One will be the desktop (in general) and then there will be an additional explorer process for every open file browser window.

The situation with nvidia is a lot better now. Ati is slightly more problematic but still easy enough.
Geting restricted drivers running under fedora etc...is still a bitch. Ubuntu is easy peaty.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

includes an array of drivers for virtually any type of hardware and has the widest variety of software available

For desktop, yes not for servers. All my servers hardware works out of the box on RHEL. It's a formally supported system, indeed it is windows that's the pain win drivers in my case. Same with servers. DNS, web, DHCP, all run on UNiXlike systems. Indeed, that's their origin.

Check your open ports and install a firewall (i.e. "ufw"). Make sure SSH is disabled.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Should be fine. I use ubuntu on mine.

Use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, for your server, will save you hassle with things breaking when updates come out.

My network setup is basically this:

In terms of Servers, I have a Red Hat (5.x) Server that Does DNS/DHCP as well as PXE(TFTP), NFS, and Samba (A proper windows domain, with roaming profiles etc..). Basically this runs backups and has our home drives and OS images on it.

Secondly, I have a Debian (Lenny) Server acting as a LAMP server, also media/file streaming hub.

In terms of Clients, I have some Ubuntu PCs (x2) - Nice to have my same home directory replicated everywhere. If one breaks, I can just reinsall it by netbooting. One of these is also a print server. Lastly, there is Windows 7 Laptop which also makes use of roaming profiles and the shares, and I can also use the printer on one of the ubuntu boxes.

Image manipulation in php is always iffy, make sure that people can't keep hammering it or your server will grind to a halt.

Be wary. VAIOS are a nightmare. Really nonstandard hardware, so probs won't get on well with Linux, especially if it's a recent model, Just upgrading windows on them is quite a pain.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Depends. I love windows for easy management.
But I prefer linux for set-up-and-forget boxes.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

More than slightly different! - You can mix speeds but not types....

DDR2 and DDR3 are totally incompatible, i dont even know if they will fit...

Yup, agree with caperjack.

To lay this to rest:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java

To get SUN/ORACLE java, use one of these methods:
https://raw.github.com/flexiondotorg/oab-java6/master/oab-java6.sh (bash script)

If thats too hard, and you only want the JRE (THIS IS NOT SUITABLE FOR DEVELOPERS)

To use wireshark under Linux you probably need to be a superuser, for obvious security reasons.

do sudo wireshark?

VPN?

A default constructor is just: classname() as opposed to any other ones i.e. classname(params...)

This stuff is like lesson 1 of programming. It will be in your book.
You can do this assignment in 10 minutes.

Try hard. If you can do this, you are probably on the wrong course

Thats just life :) live with it.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Well you cant have the internet on an adhoc network, unless one of the machines has 2 NICs., why not just get a wireless router, that way you can share files, and the internet connection. they are like £30...

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Well why dont you use a wireless router?

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

You want to make what is called an "ad hoc" wireless network, unles you have a wireless router.

I would like to see a "Subscribe to Thread" feature added.

There are occasions when I want to be notified if there are new postings to a thread, even when I feel I have nothing to contribute. I (generally) don't like posting unless I can make a contribution to the topic and currently (as far as I know) that is the only way to get email notifications of new posts.

It exists already, not sure where is now, she moved it during the last redesign, but should still be about.

Examples of VAIO model names are::

VGC-LV17G
VPCZ139GA
VGN-SZ583N

They are found near the edge of the VAIO screen

Sony are notoriously bad for drivers! If your laptop was sold with XP or Vista then you will most likely only find XP or Vista drivers for it.
I have put 7 on a few Sony's for customers and it is always a nightmare to find drivers.

100% agree with you on that.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

I don't believe that, I can still barely get python...

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

There was a lot of flaming going on on both sides in the thread about for interface generators for databases. Indeed, I myself up and downvoted posts on all sides in that instance.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

Yeah, BASIC

I started age 9/10 with VB5 and BlitzBasic (Like QBasic)
Then moved on to Delphi, then C# at 13/14
Did C++ and Java at uni.

Now a C++ developer.

Rebuild the rpm database? This is long and dangerous.
