I just automatically downvote every one of your posts. It's like when a girl punches you -- it means she loves you. Except I'm not a girl. And I don't love you. You're the closest thing to serkan we've got, though. Well, sknake is closer, I suppose... the names are practically anagrams. I'll tell you what -- I'll downvote all of sknake's posts I see, instead.

That deserves an upvote :)

Van der Graaf also mentioned the iPhone, which he called "quite safe" for internet banking.

"Another option is the Apple iPhone. It is only capable of running one process at a time so there is really no danger from infection," he said.

That doesnt make someting safe... the iphone isnt invulnerable. Also he doesnt seem to comprehend the fact that it can be lost easialy, or the fact that its sending your data over public airwaves or (usually unsecured) wireless networks

Okay, all a pointer is is a number (indeed to see it in C use the & operator). Its a number standing for a memory address (like a co-ordinate). You use -> to operate on the thing which the pointer points to.

Simply put, a linked list is a data structure which allows for dynamic memory. On the other hand, an array, for example, is one contiguous block of memory of a fixed size. This is easy to code, but not very flexible. Linked lists address this issue by allowing for variable size and (depending on implementation) faster searching, at the cost of complexity

Simply, there is a pointer (basically a numerical memory address) called head, or start etc.... This points to the first element (node) in the list (an object - linked lists are a great example of why OOP is good). If the list is empty, this points to NULL.

Each node object has some data and a field which holds a pointer (the address of the next node in the list). If this is NULL, it means it is the last node in the list.

So to traverse a list, you get each node, starting with the one at the head, and then you follow the list (by getting each nodes *next pointer) along, until you get to one where this points to NULL (the tail of the list)

LinkedLists can be used in more complex ways. E.g a Binary Search Tree. …

Let the anti-apple rant begin!!!!

<rant>

I hate Macs and i hate mac users too. I have always hated them for all my life. When try (and fail because im blinded by its stupid white and silver shinyness) to sit down to use a Mac, the first thing into my mind is, "Where the hell is the second mouse button!" and "I hate Macs!!"

I am also sick and tired of mac fanboys who pretend to like Macs not for thier looks but because they are in someway better. HOW CAN IT BE BETTER IF ITS ONLY GOT ONE DAMN MOUSE BUTTON AHHHHH!

You may have noticed the current Apple advertising campaign starring Mitchell and Webb (those random guys from peep show). I thaught to myself “ Apple has nothing better to do with its money than this?.” There ads must have been written by a 5 year old (average mac user hehehe)

In the ads, Webb plays a Mac while Mitchell plays a PC. Thats no surprise as Mitchell, who wears a nerdy suit is generally thaught of as the wierd one with no friends, while Webb, who wears casual wear is thaught of as the quirky yet cool psycopath. This is a another not-so-subtle subtle way of saying Macs are cool.

The adverts also make a big deal about PCs being associated with boring office tasks while Macs are associated with fun activities. HOW ARE MACS MORE FUN - YOU CAN HARDLY …

Um. yeah there is... By using the software you agree to the EULA. Thats a legally binding contract.. Also 99.9% of countries in the world have a system of copyright and are signatories to nternational treaties to protect this.

And please dont mention endorse piracy here. This is a formal warning. If illegal acts are discussed again, you will be given an infraction.

Keep it clean and do not post pornographic material or link to it. In addition, do not post anything warez related or related to other illegal acts.

You don't have to close all the ports.

are you an idiot?
of course you have to close the ports, in case you havent noticed the servers of banks etc.. run linux and unix and they are prime targets for hacks

secondly, why fedora? fedora isnt good for servers, it has short release cycle and is very buggy and bloated. Its essentially the beta version of Red Hat which is a server-grade OS.

fedora includes SeLinux and a firewall which should be on by default. Do you have a GUI or not? then i can tell you how to configure it.

"You can install OpenSuSe for linux. "

Look at the original post!

"my pentium II of IBM computer"

No modern linux distro will run with a full X server in any usable way with 64mb or less of RAM.

A linux desktop needs 384-512mb for a good user experiece.

Just buy a new PC.

lastly

"WIN NT = what linux OS
WIN Xp = linux What "

Windows XP is a part of the NT family, I believe you are referring to NT4?

Thats a 10+ year old system. Linux didnt even exist in 1996.

I mean, is God like Santa or the tooth fairy?

Same principles. Both are believed out of innocence and people will defend them as long as they believe in them.

Neither are very logical either (santa delivering presnts to the globe is about as believable as creation) and thier purpose is to make us happy and keep us well behaved. So what do you think, is god just like santa, does he only exist if you believe in him?

Discuss.

jbennet 1,618 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

You will need to start at the bottom but it will be paid (low level coder, tech support, something like that)

Computer Information Systems or COmp/Sci are both equally employable in my eyes, but different companies like different ones, e.g some like CIS as you recognise the practical business aspect of systems instead of just the theory, wheres software development companies will want comp/sci as methods and coding are important.

Experience is key. If your into coding, get into an opensource project or something, it looks good on your CV.

I dont know how things are in the US but i will be going to university next year to study a computer-related degree and this is what ive been told (im in england)

its easy

Run the "home networking wizard" on the side panel under network connections

specify your workgroup there, and it will share the "shared folders" directory and any printers you have.

you can then share addition folders by right clciking them and choosing sharing and security - passwords are under there

XP HOME HAS NO PASSWORDS!

Yeah, 1) Suse is buggy 2)Its crippled in terms of media and 3) Runs about as slow as Vista

you can yes

e.g if you have a static page holding links in the left frame and you want the right pane to go to whatever link they click in the left pane then you can target one frame from another with something like:

<A href="page.html" target="contentframe">Link Description</A>

this only works if you give your frames proper names
