How can i write a engineering code using Perl?

If you are using Windows you will want to look into the Win32 class of modules and see if there is one written to communicate with the com port, I suspect there is. Or you can possibly open a pipe to the com port. Where are you stuck? Do you know any perl?

Hi guys! Thanks for replying. Actually not particularly for RS232 port. i would like to capture information from USB pen drive for example the pen drive serial number or hardware code etc.
Not so sure can perl script do it or not. Please advice. Thank you.

Did some perl programming 10 years back, mainly on web. Not on programming for many years now.
