reference for starting to code in java

I am new to programming in java...can you recommend me some study material from which i can practice and get started.I want some reference where there are basic sample codes from which i can learn and start applying them in problems

initially u learn introduction to java programming by balaguruswamy and then learn java complete reference for programming and also learn ebooks and practice those examples.. ok

Everyone should actually browse the threads before posting useless ones. Seriously, it is a rule of thumb to read the forum rules and stickied posts.

And if you are new to whole forum thing, why don't you read them first anyways? They are at the top for a reason.
