Read "The C++ Programming Language" by Bjarne Stroustrup.

I have learnt the basics using "C++ Primer" (4th Edition), by Stanley B. Lippman.
I found it very educational and probably less complicated that the Stroustrup one...

I have a book to suggest: an English dictionary! Communication is one of the most important skills in engineering.
