Hi all,
I have a problematic Dell Dimension 4600i and I'm not sure what the source of my problem is.
I decided to do a clean install of XP on it and ran into a problem. The installation took forever, maybe five times as long as it should normally have taken. I'm not exactly a newbie at this so I was kind of intrigued by the situation. I tried different options, swapping out the memory, processor, the hard drive, changing/verifying the CMOS settings, and even trying to load a clean install of Vista. Each and every installation took forever. My only option at this point is to declare that the motherboard is bad but before I do that, I thought I would see if anyone here might have run into a similar situation and maybe had a fix for it. If I let the installation run its course, it seems to install properly but my reservation is that a slow install could be a predictor of slow or error-prone processing.
Ideas, anyone?
Thanks
