I've been reading about (open source, locally installable) and how easy it is to install and use. I never believe it when something is touted as easy to install and use, and not wanting to potentially brick my laptop, I fired up a clean copy of Windows 11 Pro in HyperV. From that moment on it was one rabbit hole after another. The installer repeatedly failed with complaints about nodejs. Once those were resolved it was complaints about cloning the OpenClaw repository and problems with github.

For something touted on the home page as Works everywhere. Installs everything. You're welcome it sure failed spectacularly. Fortunately, I was able to use HyperV revert to go back to my "before the disaster" checkpoint.

Hmmm I feel you. Many of us have been bitten by that boast. I have no experience with Open Claw, but I am interested in IBM's Granite 4 Nano which runs a local LLM. But apparently I'm not smart enough to figure out the installation.

I managed to get it installed after many many dead ends but when I finally got to where I entered

openclaw onboard

I was presented with dozens of options, none of which were explained. I decided not to waste any more time on something which would likely just respond with "something is not configured correctly".
