Hello everyone,

How easy would it be and where would I start to create a system that members of my virtual pet community could check a box when they register (and update on their profile page) to accept or decline being added to an email list, then for a script to automatically go through my MySql database picking up the email addys of those whose wish to be added to the email list.

Is it possible to even create a script that allows me to select certain members so I can send them global email messages?

Also I would like to introduce an admin message system in which I can send members a message to their website message inbox.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Quite easy, yes its possible and private message systems are quite common and my advice is to find a developer who knows what they are doing as these are out of scope for posting to a forum.
