You can upload a file directly into the database, or you can store it's path or location in the database, and use that.

I personally recommend the second option, it's fairly easy to do and there's a lot of file upload tutorials that you can follow. Do a search for some here, or failing that, try http://www.php-mysql-tutorial.com/.
