There is Firebug for Firefox and some very interesting developers toolsets, such as Dragonfly for Opera and Google's Developer Tools. Even MSIE's Developer Tools look like they have some possibilities.

But is any of this documented, anywhere? All these seem less straight forward than debuggers I've used in the past.

What do you mean by documented? You mean something like this for Firebug? And for Dragonfly is this???
