Sadly the last remote support to my neighbor installed spyware which took over the computer and they came to me to wipe and reload the OS.

I worked on a team just this year that had a similar support rotation around the development team. Thankfully it was only the full time employees that had to participate in that rota, and since I was working under a temporary contract I was not asked and I definitely didn't offer.

I didn't mind the standby. The company paid for my home very-high-speed internet connection. Most of the calls at 2:00 in the morning could be taken care of from home in under 30 minutes. For each call I would get 2 hours at double time.
