What I'm looking for is some good books on C or gas assembler. I would prefer the books be Linux based. So if you know any good titles could you pass them on to me...Thanks

In general, I recommend against the 'for dummies' books for any kind of IT learning as they tend to do brief overviews while skipping over important details. Same goes for Sam's Teach Yourself SomethingImportant (tm) in x hours series of books.

The books that I purchased are:
The C Programing Language by Kernighan and Ritchie
C: The Complete Referenece by Herbert Schildt
and Beginning Linux Programming by Neils Matthew and Richard Stones
The first two book I highly recommend and the final...I have not had time to read it yet
