I am trying to repair my friends notebook. He dropped it off his house (I didn't ask). It is in perfect physical condition. It will boot from the bios but after like 5 seconds or so it just goes off. I removed the hard drive and it still does the same thing. I have the thing completely taken apart and cannot find anything physically wrong with it. It still stays on for only about 5 seconds. The fan does come on. And I reseated the ram. It is a HP Pavilion xf125. I think it my be in the power/electicity area, since everything else seems to work. Any help guys?

It might have affected the connectors to the mobo. If thats the case then you may be able to diagnose the issue by using the voltmeter or the like and test the voltage to the mobo. Also i d say take the CPU out and reseat it with new paste. The knock could have moved the cpu and it might not be getting cooled effectively. Take it off and apply new paste before putting it back in again. See if you see any changes.
