my dell inspirion 1501 screen is black yet the computer works, if i close it and open it back up the screen will flash on. my warrenty is up of course by 3 months and they want to charge me $60 for a tech to fix it over the phone!!! anyone know whats wrong with it? can it be fixed?

Sounds like your backlight inverter has failed, it needs to be replaced.
