Hi Folks, I have a Compaq R3000 which is dead....when connected to the ac adaptor the lightening bolt flashes and when the power button is pressed it just illuminates and nothing happens. I replaced the power jack to no avail, there is about 17.9 volts getting to the motherboard. If the adaptor is left connected the lightening bolt flashes for about 2 minutes before going off. I'm sure I can hear something ticking from arond the jack plug area. I've tried running with the battery out but nothing at all happens..no lights no noises, nothing.
Please help...do I need a new motherboard??

yeah, it sounds like a capacitor or something else in the mobo's power circuit has failed
