Hello everyone,

This is my first post on DW and hopefully my last of this nature. I was searching for a solution when I found this forum and saw how you guys did it here. So, I hope I'm not being bold by posting this.

I was running low on space on my hard drive, so I cleared off some old media files and game installations. After a reboot, my PC has been giving me trouble.

My PC boots more slowly than usual and now explorer.exe crashes right off the bat and will run again shortly when I launch it in the prompt. I've used Spybot S&D and it found some malware and trojans, but even removing those does nothing. All in all, everything I've tried hasn't worked, though the problem has stayed the same and not gotten worse.

Hi and welcome to Daniweb forums :).

Download
SDFix
and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the
following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the
  Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

• In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract
  All,
• Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to
  start the script.
• Type Y to begin the script.
• It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the
  registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool
  will be running and removing files.
• When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and
  display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load
  your desktop icons.
• Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the
  contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with
  a new HijackThis log

Thanks for the quick response. I downloaded Sdfix and attempted to reboot in safe mode, which froze my PC after loading the drivers. I then tried safe mode w/ networking and also booted w/o SPTD.sys and still no luck.

Now I am getting an error dialog that reads "Retrieval of THotkey failed". Assuming that this has to do with the Toshiba software for my laptop, should I reinstall any firmware/drivers from Toshiba?

Try booting up a couple of times normally and if no luck still, reinstall them.
Once running again, lets try this instead;

• You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
• Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
• Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
• Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Alright, I downloaded it, and disabled all programs that could interfere. However, ComboFix gives me the message that "Windows Script Host access has been disabled". It then hung up after completing Stage 1 and I had to reboot.

Can you please do the following.

Open a command prompt by:

1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...".
2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes).
3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes).

Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present:

Command Service (cmdService) owner ... (C:\WINDOWS\Q2FsZWIgRC4gQmVub3Jl\command.exe)

Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services. Once stopped, set this service to disabled.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Thanks for your reply. I actually got it working before I saw your post by changing the WSH registry key and then ran ComboFix. You are the man! CF got that dang command.exe under control among other things. Here is the new HJT log:

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

Copy and paste the following bold blue text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fix.bat to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.bat file on your desktop
You'll see a black screen flash,thats normal.

The combofix log would normally be saved to the root of the drive. C:\Combofix.txt

I am seeing a lot of that lately and I don't know why :(. Never mind. If your pc is ok (your log looks clean), do the following;

Let's get rid of Combofix now that we are finished with it.

• 
  
• Click START then RUN
• Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

• When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:

• 
  
• Delete the following:
  • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
  • VundoFix backups, if present
  • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
  • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
• Reset the clock settings.
• Hide file extensions, if required.
• Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
• Reset System Restore.
