Stupid Search200

Help,

Search200.com keeps trying to hijack my home page. Im running Mcafee security suite 7.0 and every 30 seconds Mcafee notifies me that my homepage is being changed. I reject the change but 30 seconds later i get another notice. ie always opens to my homepage but, every time i open ie i get an unwanted search200 toolbar at the bottom of the browser.

First of all could you click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done. If not listed there, run this uninstaller:

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\lidzwpb.exe-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\explorer.exe-file (Not the legitimate explorer.exe which resides in the C:\WINDOWS folder)
C:\Documents and Settings\Jared\Application Data\bpad.exe-file

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis making certain that all instances of Internet Explorer are closed, then post that log here please.

thanks for the help so far. The toolbar is gone and my homepage is not being redirected. I didnt find any files in my add/remove list, but i did download and run the uninstaller. i went through my HJT scan and checked the files you listed but the following were no longer there

Boot into safe mode again and delete the following;

Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

This one too if Win2K or XP.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis making certain that all instances of Internet Explorer are closed, then post that log here please.

Okay,

I scanned with HJT all browsers closed and fixed all the lines you listed. I checked for the Bargain Buddy among my program list but didnt find it. I started in safe mode but couldnt find the lidzwpb.exe or swrs.exe file.
I looked for the routetab.exe file but only found a route.exe and a routetab.dll file. (i didnt delete either of those) I did not find a Internet Optimizer folder, CMEII folder or Bargain Buddy folder. I went through and deleted all 6000+ .tmp files. I cleared out the recycle bin. When i restarted in normal mode, i got an error saying error loading, the specified module could not be found.

Now you have picked up a Coolwebsearch infection.

Download CWShredder from here & run it. Select the fix button & it will fix everything related to CoolWebSearch that is stored in it's database. Close ALL windows, including Internet Explorer, before running CWShredder. Reboot.

To help prevent this from happening again, install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits by going here for your critical updates.

Reboot after doing this & post another log please.
