Hey everyone! Ive browsed around these forums for a few weeks and Ive maintained what i think to be a clean computer . However the other day I was gone all day and when i came home my comp had been heavily attacked by several different things . I ran Spybot and Ad aware , Ad aware found some 360 problems . Howvwer when it trys to delete them it just freezes and now when i try to run it it just freezes as soon as it starts scanning . The most annoying program ive found so far is something that makes every website i visit containing words like Love or work , makes them into a link to some enhancemysearch.com page . Im pretty sure you are all tired of seeing hijackthis logs so i wont post one unless u ask but what steps do i need to get this fixed?

post a hijackthis log would be the best thing to do !

wot i do is use task manager wenever tackling a virus and if your computer is running slow whilst on the internet its probably the top value on your processos tab in taskmanager, if that happens KILL IT :D its ussaly got a name that is obvious and in other cases instead of the usual svchost.exe it might say ssvchost.exe (notice the extra s) as an attempt to hide itself, if u see this at all, kill the process, end it, that will help u out.
sometimes tho the virus will restart itsself if this happens then id recommend getting a firewall - download a trial then d/c or install from cd wen off the internet and after killing the process then wen you go on the internet the firewall will help you greatly, then u must do all the scans possible.
you have adaware and spybot, and i hope that you have antivirus aswell??? you didnt mention this but if u do then scan with latest virus defs, if not install some immediately and scan.
glad to help

Dan

Try these programs to check for Spyware
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/cwshredder.zip
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from here :-
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406

3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D

4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ and download and install the Updates.

5. Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’

6. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing 'RED' (RED) entries ‘BLACK’ entries and ‘GREEN’ (GREEN) entries in the window

7. Unsure there is a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.

8. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

9. REBOOT

================================================
Scanning in Ad-Aware:
(please ensure you have version 6 build 6. 181)
Downloads - Support - Lavasoft#free: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/#free

The following explains how to set Ad-aware's settings to perform a "Full Scan."
And some settings that should be made prior to using the first time.

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.
The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.
Under the Scanning button:
Scan within archives

Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING

In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Tweak button...
Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:
Unload recognized processes during scanning

In Cleaning Engine:
XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

UNCHECK Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings.
Now press "check for updates Now" Always check before scanning.
Click start [x] choose use default scanning options
click next and let it fix anything it finds

Reboot
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You are running a outdated version delete it and download the newer one
Please do this..
Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

You have been hit rather hard, Txsupra.

Take caperjack's advice:

1. Download HJT version 1.98.2, but don't run it and post a new log until doing these:

2. Run the online virus scans he suggested.

3. Run the utilities he mentioned, including Ad Aware and SpyBot, while booted into Safe Mode.

4. Once you've done #2 and 3, run your new version of HijackThis and post a the log. We'll stiil have work to do from there...

any better ?

Yes- the log is cleaner now, but:

1. VBouncer and AdControl are bogus, irreputable programs; you need to uninstall them. Remove Viewpoint as well.

2. You have the RapidBlaster infection. Go here for more info, including links to removal tools. Using one or more of the utilities mentioned, remove the infection.

3. After doing the above, have HJT fix the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

(Not all of the 016 entries above are malicious, but if needed in the future, any of the legit ones will be reinstalled at that point.

4. Reboot into safe mode

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".

- Find and delete all of the .exe files listed in the "04" HJT log entries in step #3.

- Find and delete the following folders entirely if they still exist:
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\RapidBlaster
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADCONTROL
C:\PROGRAM FILES\VBOUNCER

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders:

1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

(If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed.)

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

- Reboot normally and post a new log.
