I was wondering if anyone else was having a hard time downloading any updates from cwshredder? I have tried several days now and I can't. Part of the time when I click to open it I get a message saying I have a trojan infection, but it doesn't do that all the time. Norton hasn't picked up anything in its scans.

Download and run this fully working 30 day trial version Trojan Hunter.

deonnanicole 5 Posting Whiz in Training
I have version 1.57.0. Is that the lastest one, or am I behind? I'll try the link you gave me too....thanks. :)

I downloaded the trojan hunter free trial and ran it, and it didn't pick up anything. I tried cwshredder again, to update it, and still couldn't....both sites it tried to get updates from were unavailable.

End the following processes (Ctrl+Alt+Del keys):
RunDLL.exe
Then rebbot in safe mode and delete: C:\WINDOWS\RunDLL.exe
It is a trojan.

If you would prefer you could try using adaware from www.lavasoft.de or spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
They might do it for you.

I forgot to say in my first post (and the edit button has disappeared) that you have to make sure that 'view hidden and system files' is turned on in order to delete it.

Do NOT delete the rundll.exe file. It is a legitimate file which only exists in Windows 95/98/ME.
Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

ahem
Sorry
I've checked on one of my systems and crunchie is correct, but what gives here: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/rundll/ ??
crunchie 990 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster
I've seen that myself & it's very misleading. I believe they are simply concentrating on XP systems, or just forgetting about Win9X.

OK Thanks Crunchie. I've emailed them to ask them to correct it and save me making the same mistake again...
Hope Crunchie got there before you followed the instructions Deonnanicole...

I almost had an early night too :). I am going now though. Night all :).
deonnanicole 5 Posting Whiz in Training
I already deleted it. :( What should I do now to fix what I've done?
DaveSW 15 Master Poster
From what I've read you need to use SFC to re-extract it off your windows disk, but you might want to wait for Crunchie to confirm that. No, DO wait for Crunchie to confirm it...
deonnanicole 5 Posting Whiz in Training
Ok...thanks. :) And honest mistake before...no problem. As long as it can be fixed, no need to worry about it. :) By the way...what exactly did I delete and what does it do?
DaveSW 15 Master Poster
I'm glad you see it that way... ;)
From what I can make out a dll (dynamic link library) contains basic functions - like print, etc, which can be called by any other program to save developers rewriting the same code. It could also include stuff like shutdown, hibernate, etc.
deonnanicole 5 Posting Whiz in Training
Ok...partially understand what you're saying..lol. I'm not all that computer literate, in case you couldn't tell. :) I was still able to restart, although the first time I did after I deleted it, a box came up called Registry Shaver. I restarted after that, and it didn't come up anymore. Everything loaded ok, so for now I'll leave things like they are until I can have someone tell me how to put back what I took off.

from this link here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q164/7/87.asp&NoWebContent=1
it seems the rundll.exe program is actually designed for Microsoft to be able to call functions from the dll files. It suggests that you may not actually need it on your computer anyway, so it may not be that serious.
The Rundll and Rundll32 utility programs were originally designed only for internal use at Microsoft.
deonnanicole 5 Posting Whiz in Training
Thanks for the info...I'm looking over that article now. It'll take me a few times of reading over it to half way understand it all...lol!!:) I'm learning, little by little. Just wish it came easier to me. :)

Search in your recycle bin & restore it if there.

It was in my recycle bin. :) So I restored. I didn't even think of that. Figures.:) I did go through my hijackthis log and delete the things you said to yesterday, so I will get that new log posted today. Everything seems to be working fine, so hopefully it is clean.
