I have win/98 system and as I go online and try to get into my mail or into explorer etc the pages cannot be opened as it cannot find server. When I go to close the program a message appears stating that "WUPDATER" is not responding.I have to shut down and restart the comp each time I try to get on the net etc. This WUPDATER is located under, C:\programfiles\commonfiles\updater. I am taking a guess and saying that I got this in the system when I downloaded Kazza. I am in need of a fix or something to get rid of this thing!!!!!!Any info or help would be appreciated greatly. You can send me an E-Mail at znawp1@yahoo.com.HELP ME!!!!!!!

Does it seem to run at startup, if so go the start/run and type MSCONFIG then click the startup tab and look for anything related to WUPDATE and deselect it and hit apply and ok, you'll need to reboot. WUPDATE sounds similar to Windows Update, maybe that is trying to run?

that file belongs to a program called MySearch Searchbar my buddy had the same problem with it this morning and I had to go over and manually remove it ( MySearch is consitered spyware due to it tracks whatever site you visit)

Please Download hijackthis from
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button
save the log file and paste it here
Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.

The items excerpted above seem to be your biggest problem. SmileyCentral is a big source of adware, and should be avoided. IncrediFind is a hijacker. Otherwise, besides having too much stuff running overall, you seem relatively clean. You should be able to fix these by download Spybot - Search & Destroy and/or Ad-aware (there's nothing wrong with running both, though I personally prefer Spybot - S&D). Be sure to update the data files before the first scan. You can find links to these programs and more information on scumware on my Malware, virus, and startup information and tools page. I don't see anything here that these tools couldn't remove.

Thanks for the great information but of course, with every answer comes a new question You stated that besides having too much stuff running overall, you seem relatively clean. I try not to have too many programs running in the background. Based on the list above, what do you see as unnecessary?
Thanks.
