hi Guys,
my machine has been so slow after an infection with a virus which i successfully was able to remove using KAV7. so i was advised by one of us here to post a hijackthis log here and hopefully you can help me solve the speed problem. Do i need to defragment my HDDs after a virus scan?

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: CodecPlugin Class - {24e8883d-c6ca-4c36-b601-a619b065fc67} - E:\WINDOWS\system32\RichVideoCodec.dll

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [kamsoft] E:\WINDOWS\system32\ckvo.exe
O4 - Global Startup: MuchTV Remote.lnk = ?

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

E:\WINDOWS\system32\RichVideoCodec.dll
E:\WINDOWS\system32\ckvo.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Post new HJT log.

hey Crunchie. thanks for your reply but i have been unable to show hidden folders on my computer for some time now. I even edited the registry to try and show the files but it seems whenever i make changes to the folder options keys they default to the value that was there before. but i'll do as you've suggested and delete the entries above. thanks.

thanks crunchie. i did as you advised and my there has been some significant improvement in my computer's speed. i also got help from this site http://infosecurityhub.blogspot.com on how to remove the trojan and it's remnants from my computer. thanks for all your help. I however need help with my Wmplayer 10. Since the infection with the trojan when i try running it i get the message "internal application error" i've tried reinstalling it to no avail. Any help with this? Thanks.

Did as you suggested. but somehow i'm having a problem with my Wmplayer10. i have tried reinstalling it but i keep getting the same error message. "internal application error" what can i do?

I need you to follow my previous instructions please.

hey Crunchie .
sorry for going AWOL suddenly on you. but I've been kind of busy lately. anyway the windows media player error was being generated because two dlls weren't registered jscript.dll and vbscript.dll. i got some assistance from some guys online and apparently i guess these had been tampered with by the Trojan. Thanks for all your help.

No worries :)
