Coulod anyone tell me what the problem lines are ?

Thanks

Simon

The lines with this IP address are the problem. Needs dealing with immediately IMHO.

Read the sticky posts in the spyware forum and follow the advice there to resolve this. You can do this yourself with the anti-malware routines offered or you do this the lon way round posting stuff back and forth in the forum.

Just editing your registry won't get rid of this. You need to have your system scanned by the specific anti-malware functions listed in the spyware forum.

Do please act now and don't use the internet further with this PC.

Hi thanks for the reply, I am new on here and feeling slightly thick at the moment!

How do you find the sticky notes ?

Thanks again

Simon

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.
Reboot the computer.
The version of HiJackThis you used is out of date. Right Click your desktop and choose New Folder, name it HJT. Remove that old version of HJT and download the newest version from HERE Please save it to the new folder on the desktop.
Run a full system scan with it, save the log and post back here with both logs.

Hi

This is a good friends PC and I won't be able to get back to it until Saturday now (Because I am away working for a couple of days) I followed the instructions in the Read me post and I thought I would add a couple of things that happened.

ATF Cleaner worked ok.
The Microsoft Malicious software removal tool wouldnt work, it extracted but then nothing happened.
Also when I earlier installed SpyBot it runs but I can't open it to perform a scan.
I ran MalawareBytes and fixed the check issues, saving the log which I will post when I get back to the PC. I ran it in Safemode (because of the problems with the other software)

I had to leave it then (it was gone midnight by then) but the problem is not solved. i willgo through the whole process on Saturday and post the Logs I get if the problem doesn't get solved.

Thanks again for all the help and pointing out the old version of HijackThis.

Simon

You are going to have to find a way to run MBA-M in normal mode. It is not made to run in Safe mode.

Hi I downloaded the up to date version of HijackThis and ran it. I also ran Malawarebytes and SUPERAntispyware. Unfortunately I could not update either of these programs as the addresses seem to be blocked (as was the AVG update page, which along with the Google problems was one of the first indications of a Trojan). I'm not sure how to get round this. I will post the logs below before and after 'Fixing' but the problem with Google and updating still persists.

as of now AVG, Malaware, SUPERAnti and Spybot can not update. Google is still being redirected too.

can anyone suggest the next step?

thanks for all the help so far

Simon

The HiJackThis program is still the old one. The version you need is HJT version 2.0.2
You need to TURN OFF the TeaTimer portion of SpyBot as it can interfere with fixes.
To disable Spybot's TeaTimer

* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
* If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode
* On the left hand side, click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident icon in the list
* Uncheck
Resident TeaTimer
and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer
See if you can update MBA-M from here;
http://www.gt500.org/malwarebytes/database.jsp

Try these instructions and see if this file is there, if so, follow the instructions and then try updating all those again.
Open Device Manager and on the VIEW Tab, select the Show hidden devices option.
Go down to non plug and play drivers and see if there is one called TDSSserv and disable it.

When you post your logs we only need to see the FINAL logs not all of them. Just the ones which show fixes have been applied.
Uninstall that old HJT and use the newest version, it gives much more information.

I cant see anything like that in the device manager when viewing the non plug n play devices

I ran the newest HijackThis and the log is below

I have attached an image of the Device manager in the hopes that you can see what i have got,

Simon

Run HiJackThis again and place check marks next to these entries;

Once you have placed those check marks click the Fix Checked button.
Exit HJT.
Reboot and see if there is any difference.

that seems to have helped. Google seems to be working most of the time with only a blip every now and then. I still cant update AVG or Malawarebytes

Simon

Try turning off SAS, Windows Defender and maybe your firewall and see if that makes a difference with updates.

The firewall is already off, just in case that was causing a problem. I'm not sure about SAS or Windows Defender. How would I find them and turn them off?

Simon

sorry SAS = SUPERAntispyware

ok will turn it off

Honestly don't use either program so am not familiar with their inner workings.
You can stop their processes via Task Manager;
SUPERAntiSpyware.exe
I don't see Windows Defender listed as running so it must not be. You can also stop aawservice.exe, it does nothing anyway unless you have the paid version.

Hi

i just ran malaware and it found more trojans, I deleted them and AVG can update now :)

I will keep an eye on things but for now I would like to say thanks very much for all the help

Simon

Can we see the logs please? There may be other steps required. Each Trojan is different, some leaving more behind when they are removed.
Was this done with an Updated MBA-M? If not it should be updated and run again.
Post the MBA-M log a new HJT log too, ok?

Well done. I would adviseyou ro do one more thing.

Go to each of the following locations in turn:
C:\ Look for recent .EXE or .BAT files with a date around the time of your first event

C:\Program Files Look for recent directory within which .EXE files with a date around the time of your first event

C:\Windows\system32 Look for recent .DLL or .SYS files with a date around the time of your first event

Unless you know you've installed the files, regard them as suspect and report back here. The thing is that trojans reproduce themselves in ways that can be missed on a scan.

The other thing to do is look in REGEDIT, fine the RUNONCE key and move two back to the RUN key (the easy way to find RUN). Check that whatever is in the RUN list is something you understand and come back to us with anything you don't understand. Anti-malware should have dealt with this but ... You could also run a registry cleaner such as Uniblue to clear out the orphans.

Best of.

My above reply was typed before jholland1964 added his sensible advice. We both want you to make sure and there is thus no conflict between both sets of follow up advice.

My above reply was typed before jholland1964 added his sensible advice. We both want you to make sure and there is thus no conflict between both sets of follow up advice.

By the way, I am a she not a he...Judy...but no offense taken.:)
I always to "shy away" from recommending regedits here unless absolutely necessary. MBA-M will and does delete infected registry entries is one reason. I would rather see the logs before stating this thread is solved. Hopefully SimonHughes will return with those logs so we can say for sure, plus it is to the benefit of others who may be having the same problems. We have no idea what other trojans were found.
Judy

As I said (Judy), no conflict netween our advices - except perhaps that I'll always do the regedit to make sure make sure. If the registry's clean, nothing lurked that the anti-malware didn't detect.

Anyway, SimonHughes has the benefit of our advice and your caution about regedit.

Hi sorry, you are both right of course. I guess i just wanted to go home by then. I believe this is the last HijackThis log:-

I didnt think to transfer the Malaware log but I am going back there this afternoon as I seem to have become the technical support for them (poor them lol).

I will post the logs if I can find them or make new ones if I cant. I advised my friend to watch for any more problems and let me know as soon as anything occurs. i know that trojans can come back to bite you if they're not eradicated properely. i did a couple of restarts to make sure it wasnt coming back on straight away.

thanks

Simon

here is the HijackThis log as of this afternoon. You were correct as AVG has stopped updating again. i am running Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (First time it has been able to start up, so thats progress at least) and Malawarebytes. I will post the log when it has finished.

Simon

Sorry i forgot to paste !!

Your list seems clean to me. Have you done any of the checks I suggested?

I'm wondering whtehr the firewall function of AVG is interfereing with itself. Or do you need both SAS and AVG? I wouldn't have thought they interfere with each other but ....

Where is the MBA-M log? We DO need to know what was removed. Some things require additional steps to be certain that everything is totally removed.

you may be right about SAS I will have a look. I am running MBA-M now, there is a lot of music on here and it takes a while to do all the files
