I just got my computer back after having to get a full rebuild after ONE of my *bleeping, bleep bleepity bleeeeep* family members started going crazy with the download this and file transfer that, and now (on the new computer) I have three programs causing mayhem. HOME SEARCH ASSISTENT, SEARCH EXTENDER, and SHOPPING WIZARD... any quick way to get these lil buggers off my compy :-( i cant get anything done. I seriously need my own computer. AIM stopped functioning, and several other programs wont open. please help with the quickness. I never thought Id say this, but AOL is the only program actually WORKING on my computer..

what now? thanks in advance so much for the help
DMR 152 Wombat At Large Team Colleague
1. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
The log entry above indicates that you had at least 1 instance of Internet Explorer running when you ran HijackThis.
Before fixing problems with HijackThis, you must make sure to close/quit ALL instances of your web browser! HijackThis cannot fully perform its fixes while browsers are running. Since you shouldn't be accessing the Internet during the course of the troubleshoot unless you're instructed to do so, it would probably be best if you printed out any directions we give you.
2. Turn off XP's System Restore function. A description of how to do that (and why) is here: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread13362.html.
3. Go to the following 2 sites and run their free online anti-virus/anti-spyware scans:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
4. Run HijackThis again and have it fix:

5. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)
- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".
- Delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipds32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\apihc32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mszz.exe
- Delete the entire C:\Program Files\PartyPoker folder if it still exists.
- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):
1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.
Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.
- Empty your Recycle Bin.
- Reboot normally.
6. Go to Microsoft's Windows Update site and install all of most current critical security/bug fixes.
7. Reboot after that, run HJT again, and post a new log.
