Clean out last errors

Hi,

I encountered some nasty files when using IE
I cleared all of them, but there's one I can't find.
This one sets my homepage in IE to some irritant searchpage.
Sometimes it also gives me a popup, it's some add for anti-spyware. In the top bar there's allways the text "This is the best". When searching my reg I can't find this anywhere.

You still have a variant of the Home Search Assistant/CoolWebSearch family of infections. Please do the following:

You will need to disconnect from the Internet for some of the following, so you'll need to print out the following instructions, or save them into a text file with Notepad.

1. Download and run these specific about:blank/Home Search/etc. removal tools (before scanning/fixing with about:buster and CWShredder, use their online update features to make sure you have the most current updates installed):

2. Download and install these utilities (but do not run scans with them yet):

Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en

- Open ewido. In the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process completes, exit from Ewido.

- Open MS Antispyware beta. Make sure the "AntiSpyware Autoupdater" feature is enabled, and that it has downloaded the most current antispyware updates. Close the program after you've verified this.

- Open your anti-virus program and use its update feature to make sure that you have the most current virus definitions installed. As with the above programs, don't run a scan with it; just close it once it is updated.

3. Download and install the CCleaner utility, but don't run it yet.

4. Open the Services utility in your Administrative Tools control panel.
- In the list of services, locate the service named "Workstation NetLogon Service" or " 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I" and double-click on it.
- In the General tab of the Properties window that opens, click the Stop button.
- Once the service is stopped, choose Disabled in the "Startup Type" drop-down menu and then click OK.
- Close the Services utility after that.

5. Run HijackTHis again, put a check mark next to the following entries (if they exist), and then click the "Fix checked" button. Close HJT once it has finished performing its fixes:

6. Reboot into Safe Mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up).

7. Run CleanUP! It may take a while for the program to perform its cleaning, so be patient. Close the program when it has finished.

8. Run ewido, MS Antispyware beta, and you A-V program consecutively; have the programs fix all malicious items they find.

When ewido finds the first malicious object on your system, it will ask you if it should clean it. When it asks this, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
Save the log file that ewido will create after it finishes scanning; you'll be including that log in your next post here.

9. Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- Locate and delete the following files (some of these should already have been deleted by the removal utilities):

Although we've disinfected many of the "nasties", there are still some that are being stubborn. Let's try a slightly different approach:

You will need to disconnect from the Internet for some of the following, so you'll need to print out the following instructions, or save them into a text file with Notepad.

1. Download the Pocket Killbox utility and save it to your desktop or some other convenient folder. Don't run the program yet.

2. Close all open programs, especially web browsers, run HijackThis again, and have it fix:

Once HJT completes the fixes:

- Click on the "Config" button in the lower right corner of HJT's main window. In the next window click on the "Misc Tools" button at the top then click the "Delete an NT service" button. Paste the following in the box and click OK (omit the qoutes, and note that there is a blank space before the first "1"):

- Close HJT once you've done the above.

3. Run the Killbox.

- In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following
C:\WINDOWS\pytaj.dll

- Select the "Replace on reboot", "Use Dummy", and "Unregister dll before deleting" options.

- Click on the button with the red circle with the X in the middle and then click Yes at the "Replace on Reboot" confirmation prompt. Click No at the request to actually reboot.

- Repeat the above steps for this file:
C:\WINDOWS\javajf.dll

- In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apita.exe

- Select the "Replace on reboot", "Use Dummy" options.

- Click on the button with the red circle with the X in the middle and then click Yes at the "Replace on Reboot" confirmation prompt.

- This time, click Yes at the request to reboot and let the computer reboot normally.

4. Run HijackThis again and post the new log.

I searched for the " 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I" with HJT but it couldn't find it in the register ...

If I clean the R. secion with HJT, it all seems clean, even after reboot, except for one thing:
C:\WINDOWS\ipjd.exe in the 04 Section.

If I kill this with HJT it's gone but it reapears with a different name at reboot.
If I kill it with KillBox it's gone for 15 seconds, than Microsoft AntiSpyware reports something needs clearance. The new thing is just the same only with another name.

Now, this is the only thing happening if I don't use IE.
As soon as I turn on IE all the "10001%everything4find.com" refferences in the R. section in HJT return.

CWShedder used to find CWS.HomeSearch, that's cleared now, but I guess it comes back when I turn on IE.

HS Remove allways removes 8 files, but I don't know which one, it makes no log ...
AboutBuster removed this the last time: Removed File! : C:\WINDOWS\system32\zkkxy.dat

AdAware found some strange things too:

But they seem to be gone with the wind now.

But there is significant improvement over the last time:
With all the bugs in the beginning it took my IE at least 30sec to start up.
Now it only takes like 5 seconds.
Normally it flashes up as soon as I click the icon.

If you need a log, no problem, but tell me exactly what I can and can't do because the log changes everytime I make one.

What can I do about this ?

It just dissapeared without a trace after reboot!
None of my programs is picking up anything whatsoever.

I'm honestly not sure why things suddenly cleared up like that. I've been running across some unusually stubborn variants of the HS/CWS/etc. infections lately (including yours), and I get the distinct feeling that there is some new and well-hidden component to these beasties. Unfortunately though, I just haven't had the time to do any real research on the issue.

In terms of your best defenses against future infections, there are many useful suggestions in this thread.

If you use IE for general browsing, it's recommended that you tightening up its default ActiveX, scripting, etc. settings as decribed in the following two links:

Also- the free SpywareBlaster utility does a good job of blocking "unwanted guests" which exploit ActiveX controls and the like.
