I Keep Getting An Application Error Message!

Hi, If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. I just had my hard drive replaced in my computer and I was reinstalling everything on it. I reinstalled Music Match Jukebox 10.0 and I keep getting this error message.
mmjb.exe-application error
The instruction at "0x7c2821b2" referenced memory at "0x0000001c". The memory could not be read.
Click ok to terminate the program.

I've uninstalled mmjb and reinstalled it and it still doesn't work.

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz 0.99 GB of Ram

Hmm, that sounds like a hardware prob, but we'll double check that.

Download HijackThis (current verison is v1.99.1)

or here (Alternate 1, a self-extracting zip file)
or here (Alternate 2, an *.exe file)

Make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into.

(Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. Suitable examples are:

C:\HijackThis\
C:\Programs\hijackthis\
C:\Windows\My Documents\HJT\

but feel free to use any name.)

Extract and save the HijackThis download to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. (This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if fixes are made) Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and click Scan.

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that and copy & paste its contents in your reply. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't try to fix anything yourself.

Umm...ya never moved the icon from the initial folder, as asked by the first post.

Fix this and post a new scan, and we'll work from there.

heh my bad, I apolegize.

You're pretty infected, but we can fix all of it. Let's do this.

Open Program Files (My Computer > Local Disc (C: ) > Program Files).
When ya open it, right click, and create a new folder here. Name it 'HJT'.

Now, drag the HJT program icon into this new folder.

NOTE: Some of this process will be done while in safe mode. Save them to a Notepad file, as you will not be able to access the internet while in Safe Mode.

After doing this, follow up by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Now close the program.

Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Now, follow by downloading Ewido Security Suite.

Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
- Install background guard
- Install scan via context menu
Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will now open to the main screen.
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
- On the left hand side of the main screen click Update.
- Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
Close the program.

Now, restart the computer.
Go to the Add/Remove Programs list (inside the Control Panel) and uninstall 'PartyPoker'

Open Ewido.
Click on Scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Now, open HJT, and place checks by the following entries:

After placing a check by these entries, close EVERY OTHER WINDOW (including this one) and hit 'Fix Checked'.

Now, reboot into Safe Mode. To do this, repeatedly click F8 while your computer is starting up.

Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

1) Select "Delete on Reboot".

2) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system\smss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvcd.exe

3) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

4) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Now, reboot into safe mode again.

1) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

2) Select "delete on reboot" and put a check in the "unregister dll.

3) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\mscfg.dll

4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

5) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Now, run HJT again and save the log.

Hi,
What do you mean I didn't move the icon from the initial folder. I did exactly what was instructed. I made a new folder and save it there and then closed it out and opened it back up where I made the new folder and then scanned it. I don't know what else you wanted me to do. Please explain!! I'm not real good at this computer stuff.

Ok, let's try this 1 more time, and if this doesn't work, we'll have to try something else:

Copy this advise to a Notepad file. Save it to your desktop. We will use it later.

1) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

2) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

3) Select "delete on reboot" and put a check in the "unregister dll.

4) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscfg.dll

5) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

6) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Hmm good, log's clean.

About the MusicMatch. What I would first try is reinstaling the software for it, because this is often a common issue.

Lastly, are ya having any other problems beside this one?

Hi,
No I'm not having any other problems besides the music match. I'll try reinstalling it again and see what happens. I've reinstalled it about four times before I found this site for help. It ran okay on my computer before I had to have the hard drive replaced. Now, I don't know why I keep getting the error message. I really thank you for your help. I will get back with you when I reinstall the music match.
