IE7 opens automatically

Since yesterday, every once in awhile, my IE 7 opens automatically to a website named www2.diymov.com. However, I pinged the website and it's not there. So I checked the source file and it showed www.3w.com. I blocked that site on my firewall and IE7, but it just won't go away. I have ran Ad-aware, spybot, windows defender and some other similar programs and none of them fixed the problem.

Can someone please help me out here?

Hi,

Something is trigering the IE7 and it is not a condition to be a virus. Go to task manager and check for the running services it may be there. To make sure press start >> run >>msconfig and you will get a list of auto start services with their locations and other distinguishing properties and you can disable it from there. Also check in the IE7 tools menu the addons, it can be simply be an automatically downloaded addon that is causing the problem. Disable all the addons (it is safe and will increase IE performance), and check if problem solved.

and I did a little research on it and here comes the info:

"Viruses and i (I), l (L) and 1 (one).
Virus and spyware writers are getting more cunning. They are now disguising their viruses to look or sound like Windows system files. Quick quiz: out of the following, which of the files is the spyware (browser hijack), virus (Trojan) and the crucial system file?

* Isass.exe
* lsass.exe
* Win32.exe

Hey, wait a minute, the first two files are the same! Well, they are not. The first starts with the letter capital i (I) and second starts with the letter lowercase l (L). The one starting with i (isass.exe) is a virus/Trojan but Windows users may easily mistake it for the very important security process, lsass.exe (starts with a lowercase L, as in lucky). And yes Win32.exe is a browser hijack program that will keep taking charge of your browser home page."

I couldn't delete it in the first place, I had to logon thru safe-mode and then I was able to take it out.

I hope that helps out people who has the same or similar issues.

gt...Are you saying you just deleted lsass.exe? It appears to me that that was a legitimate windows file...You need to be very careful when deleting files during a virus/spyware removing operation...

isass.exe was the bot that triggered my IE to open every once in a while.

LSASS.exe is the legit windwos file.

I stated all that in my second post.

great job gthotmail. In my case it was Firefox. Do you know what it (issas.exe) does? I may have used some confidential sites while the Trojan was active, so I'm a little concerned.
Also, why on earth can't a commercial tool like Norton detect it. My Norton failed to find it even when I directed it to the right folder to scan!

I guess issas.exe hides itself as a Microsoft startup-run file which fools Norton IS (I am using it).

But C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory gives it away. The original LSASS.exe shouldn't have been in that place.
