windows and internet explorer not working

For the last 3 days my windows explorer and internet explorer have not been working properly.
Window explorer will open but, when I click on a folder nothing happens. If there is a shortcut on my desktop I can get to the file that way.
In internet explorer I can get to my home page but, if I go to another web page it automatically jumps back to the previous page.
I have checked some forums to see if I could find an answer. All I could come up with was that I should install hijackthis, so I did. Now I need someone to take a look a the log. If there is anyone who understands this stuff, would you take a look at the log and let me know how to fix this problem. Thanks.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

Well I did everything you told me to.
when I first scanned
"O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*" was not on the list
And I could not find this file C:\windows\system32\lkdsrngp.exe.
I rebooted and nothing has been fixed.

I have attahed the new log though. Let me know what you think.

• Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
• Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
• When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
• Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Other than what combofix remeoved I don't see anything bad. What problems are you still having?

In internet explorer, when I go to a new web page it stays for a second then jumps back to the previous page.
In windows explorer when I click on a folder nothing happens it just stays where it is. Also, I found out that on my desktop the ony way I can open a folder or file is to right click and hit open. I can't double click on the icons.

Do you have your XP CD? If so, have it ready and do the following;

Go to Start | Run and type in sfc /scannow (include the space) and hit ok. You may get a prompt to insert the CD, so do so when requested.

I did the scan. now I can double click on the desktop icons but, windows explorer and internet explorer are still doing the same thing. Any other suggestions.

Only thing I can see that will work is a system repair. You will have to boot from the XP CD.

i just uninstalled office xp in in the add/remove. then installed with the disk.
but the link you attached makes it sound like repair is done differently.

So, I finally found out what was wrong. You won't beleive how stupid this is. There was a little button stuck on my mouse. I got it unstuck now everything works fine.
