For some reason all of a sudden my machine wont read copy CDs. Can any one please help me?

Ive got copy CDs such as Audio and things i have copied such as uni work also copies of software. They where all working fine before but when i put them into the machine it doesnt do anything nothing shows up on the desktop and no 'sound' is made. Ive tried original CDs and they all work. Ive reinstalled 10.3 but made no difference.
Actually it now seems to be not reading anything apart from a few audio CDs very strange!!!

1) Try cleaning the CD drive with CD cleaner.
2) Try a PMU reset. The Apple support site has more info on that

I also have begun not to be able to do CD downloads. Is it simply a matter of cleaning it? What is the best product - and where should I buy it. Thank you.
