I got a laptop with vista home on it. I never got any recovery CD's but was told all the software is on a separate partition?
how do I delete all the info on my laptop and re-install vista?

What kind of laptop is it? When you first power on the laptop you should see the initial post screen that should display a key stroke or a combination of keys that need to be pressed in order to enter Recovery mode.
HI i have a Lenovo.
Well, most IBM/Lenovo laptops have the Thinkpad button or Access IBM button that you can press when you first power on that should get you access to system recovery. Also, it may display something about hitting F11 in order to get into system recovery. This is assuming the drive wasn't wiped previously and the system recovery partition still exists.
